How did I come up with the number that there are 2000+ Hosted VoIP Providers operating in the US?
Broadsoft has about 420 clients globally; about 300 in the USA.
Netsapiens has 130+ clients globally.
GENBAND and Sonus/Taqua have at least 100 each.
Metaswitch is in 800+ networks (not all doing hosted).
The NCTC has 800 independent video & broadband providers.
There are 600 ILECs.
There are approximately 480 cable providers. NCTA doesn’t list its membership any more but it was around 500+ last time it was listed. Consolidation is of course shrinking these numbers.
Coredial, WLC and other white label UCaaS providers have more than 1000 providers.
That doesn’t include the mom-and-pop Asterisk shops powering a couple of hundred lines each. Also, how about the SIP Trunking providers – mainly cable, but notably BSFT, Intelepeer, Twilio, Level3 and Vonage/Nexmo.
There are too many to count. So I round off to 2000 Hosted VoIP providers to take seriously.
