Re-Think Your Survey

I get a lot of surveys. I get tired of filling them out. They are Not well thought out forms.

Would you recommend us? That is so 90s.

First off, most people don’t going around recommending anything. You have to jump on Reddit or Nextdoor or (help me) FB to ask for a recommendation. Then you get a bunch of suggestions from people with no context.   In addition, you get a few suggestions of who never to call.

You can check Google Reviews. But who writes reviews? Have you written any Google reviews or Yelp reviews?

How do fiber powered ISPs not understand that we would only recommend them if they were available at that address?  Since around 25-35% of addresses only have one option, it isn’t a recommendation, is it?

Recently, C Spire sent out a partner survey where they conflagrated customers and partners, TSDs and vendors. It was so confusing.

When I fill out the forms for the experts platforms like GLG, they ask if I was recently in a clinical trial. Those are probably appropriate for some conversations, but not all. It just makes no sense.

When I see questions that make no sense, I usually leave the survey and not look back.

When I looked at the Zayo survey, I am immediately struck by how lazy it is. Like almost every one of the surveys and forms. It is pure laziness. You couldn’t segment out for Customer and Partner? Seriously?

Here’s the Marketing lesson about surveys: They are only as good as the Questions. If the questions are confusing or unclear or ambiguous, then those answers will be also. I get how easy it is to use a template, but why waste your own time and the survey takers’ time by not thinking through the survey?
